Strategy Buys Back Its Own Stock as Bitcoin Miners Miss Rally, The Block Reports

Strategy’s latest treasury shift lands amid broader market divergence and fresh regulatory questions across the crypto and AI landscape.

By Jack Ryder · Gotham Gazette

Bitcoin miners are missing the current crypto rally even as exchanges and stablecoins surge, The Block reported on 2026-09-09. That divergence sets the backdrop for fresh moves by major corporate players adjusting to shifting market conditions.

In a related signal of shifting priorities, Michael Saylor’s Strategy spent $176 million repurchasing its own stock rather than adding to its bitcoin position, bitcoinfoundation.org reported on 2026-09-09. The company disclosed on 31 August 2026 that it had bought 4,603 bitcoin for about $370 million, ending a ten-week pause to bring its holdings to 845,050 BTC, while separately repurchasing $152 million of its variable-rate preferred stock.
